Law of attraction does work.  The old saying "birds of a feather flock together" is true.  Look around you -- your friends are similar to you, the people you look up in awe at have similar friends/acquaintences as they are.  You attract who and what you are.  If you believe you are something, you become it and the result is that you will attract that to you.

The law of attraction is just another name for Manifesting. There are many other names, another few names you might recognize are Magick, Prayer or Visualization. It is one of the most simple things a human can do, and yet because of it's lack of complications, many people fail to see how they already accomplish manifestation on a regular basis.

To make it really easy. What happens when you're hungry? You think "I'm hungry" as your tummy rumbles. Then what do you do? You search for food. When you've found that food, you've manifested something. It may not have come out of thin air, though for some it happens that way. You might think, "I'm hungry and there is nothing to eat around here", and then suddenly your sister, friend or spouse comes through the door with take out. That is also manifesting.

The law of attraction is all the same thing. The difference is that most people only think about it in terms of money and luxuries. These are not things we immediately need, so they tend to be harder to manifest than others, but it is still done all the time.

It absolutely does and I totally agree with the previous answers! I began reading the secret earlier this year and have seen how our whole lives are made up of the Law of attraction.

Before I was drawn to the book I was in a place of trying to find out who I am and felt like I needed more out of life. I was bored one day after work and popped into the book shop; heard a woman talking about "The secret" and another book called "Conversations with God" and so I bought the Secret and as you know what the book entails it was just what I needed at the time! Having read it I had a think and remembered that in fact I had prayed about wanting to find out a little more about myself and life the night before. (I attracted the secret)

What did I do next? I ordered "Conversations with God" They never called me to say when it had arrived. Two Months later I was going for a walk as I again was feeling a little low and popped into the book shop (My trips to the book shops are never planned but I love reading and if I come across a shop I just pop in). Anyway I was looking around at fashion books and something drew me to a box on the floor of books which were all 75p! (Bargain I thought) I looked threw it and what did I find "Conversations with God". Need I say anymore?

I have so many stories like this since discovering The Laws of attraction.

Thanks for your answers everyone.  I just watched The Secret for the first time last night.  I will be giving it a try.  Kirst Lou- I will also have to read Conversations With God.  I haven't heard of that.  Thank you!!

The key is to get in touch with your higher self, spirit if you will, through meditation, contemplation and spiritual practice. And by spiritual practice I don't mean attending church, a holistic practice such as Yoga is a great way of accessing your true nature from which the well spring of desire, wants and needs comes from.

Only when you feel, sense and are in one with the soul's desire can you begin to attract the things it needs. Most people want to attract things from an ego perspective, not the higher self, hence they focus on wealth and materialistic things which they hope will bring them happiness. Unfortunately they soon discover that the thing they desired once obtained only provided a brief transitory moment of pleasure. So they seek out the next thing which they are sure will provide the happiness they deserve! In their quest they begin to get desperate questioning why they aren't attracting the things they crave never understanding how those desperate thoughts themselves are creating the barrier. So many people repeat this mistake over and over and over again....never gaining the happiness they so desperately seek as their negative thoughts create the world they inhabit.

The key is to find out who you are and to love yourself unconditionally, faults and all, as only through loving yourself can you begin to receive love from others. But don't focus too strongly or it will become an obsession, just express the things you desire and release them to the universe. Given time, and if it is in the best interests of everyone, you will receive the things you need.

My advice to you would be to begin finding out who you really are, what your true essence is and whether you are living the life your soul planned. Meditation will allow you to quieten the mind in order to find that point of ultimate stillness within, from which your true nature springs. Take time to look at your life, tap into that intuitive feeling we all have and be truthful to yourself with what you feel, good or bad. What you truly need will become clearer.

Yes, the Law Of Attraction does work.  For me, it was the tip of the iceberg.  My mom introduced me to the LOA years ago, when I was in college.  She sent me a series of three emails The Law Of Attraction - the most popular one; The Law of Deliberate Creation - which ties in to LOA very well.  It basically states that we are the creators of our own Universe.  Everything that you have, that has happened, that will happen is because you attracted it, you put your focus on it.  This goes for the bad stuff as well as the good stuff.  The third email was the Law Of Allowing, which is sort of like the catalyst for the end result - manifesting into your life what you have attracted.  It has to do with trusting the Universe to provide that which you have asked for.  If you are in alignment with what you want, both consciously and sub-consciously, that which you have asked for will become reality.  That was the start of it all for me.  From there I moved on to Esther and Jerry Hicks and Abraham, "The Power of Now" and "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle, Huna (Hawaiian methods), The Silva Method and a few others.  All of them have a very powerful message and totally expands your sense of Self.

But after reading up on all of that, I found that they all say essentially the same things, they're just different methods on paths to self-discovery.  I say, if it feels right then it probably is right.  What ever works for you is the right thing for you.

Once you start on this path to self-awareness, you tend to continue on with it in your own time.  Just keep an open mind and learn and practice as much as you can.

Remember, you are the most powerful being in your own life because you have the power to create whatever you want in it.  The only thing you have to do is believe.

I think the type of people who would watch the Secret and follow its teachings are mostly people who have a positive way of looking at life.  They believe anything is possible and are willing to give anything a try.  Such people, I believe make their own luck. They create their own reality, and will focus on the positives in their lives, which if they are following the Secret, they will believe have happened as a result of this.

Yes, in it's most basic form it works.  Anything we place our focus on, will grow in our lives.  Focus your thoughts clearly and consistently, and you will experience those thoughts manifested. The main idea in the Secret has been around for ages, and even has Biblical references.

However, as far as your question about it being 'too simplistic,' I suggest a little common sense and caution for readers. The book puts forth that everything that comes into our lives, is the direct result of our thinking - that ALL that happens to us, is because we have 'attracted' it to ourselves... Everything?

There are some logical questions that should be pondered:  Do people really 'attract' freak accidents or disease upon themselves?  Does someone actually 'attract' a drunk driver to cross the line of the highway and destroy their lives?  Hmmm.

Another caution:  I think one should be careful with the idea that book and other "new-age" teachings tout, that the universe is God, or even, that the "individual' himself is God.

Finally, one last caution:  Using the Law of Attraction to acquire 'things' is not wrong, in and of itself.  But I would suggest an examination into 'why' you want it?  What will it do for you to have it?  What will you become in your quest to get it?

Here is a great quote from the late Pope John Paul II:

"It is not wrong to want to live better.  What is wrong is a style of life which is presumed to be better when it is directed toward 'having' rather than 'being' and which wants to have more, not in order to 'be' more, but in order to spend life in enjoyment as an end itself."

The Law of Attraction is one of the Laws of Magic.  Author, Isaac Bonewits gives a detailed account of many of the laws of magic.

As far as I can tell these things do work, but I don't think there is any fairy tale "magic" behind them.  I think they are laws of the universe.  Though I also must state that I think Isaac Bonewits and some others who have attempted to pinpoint and describe these laws have gotten some of them really really wrong and probably because they put too much of their own spiritual path into the equation (the backwards logic used to promote the idea that the entire universe is mostly mental for instance).

As far as the Law of Attraction goes...it works, but I don't think it works the way that it is reported to work in "The Secret."  I think that in reality it would more accurately be described as the Law of Probability, in that if one wishes to acquire money they can greatly increase the odds of their doing so by thinking about money, studying money, going to places where money can be acquired, hanging out with people who make money, etc.  In other words, if you want to catch a major league baseball, go to the ballpark not the movie theater!

I don't think you attract things to you so much as you increase the odds of something happening to you by associating yourself with those things which are associated with what you wish to happen.  If that is the case, then the Law of Attraction mostly certainly does work.

As far as The Secret goes...I bought the DVD, I watched it, I recognized it as total bunk and pitched it into the trash can the next day.  Nothing works on wishful thinking, you gotta actually do something to produce results.  The woman in that movie only tells you part of how the Law of Attraction works, the other part she leaves for those wise enough to realize just how much money she managed to make telling others to wish for money.

The Law of Attraction is amazing and yes it does work and is real.   We all make it more difficult than it is meant to be.  We are living an earthly experience, so earthly efforts are needed to activate the Law of Attraction into something we recognize.  We begin searching for something that is actually right in front of us and usually miss what is already there to see.

The steps are quite easy to begin - simpler than I have ever found it explained.  People who are looking at the Law of Attraction are trying to move forward in their lives, but end up looking back - missing exactly whats in front of them.

The very first step to engage in is clutter.  Clear the clutter.  Go through your houses, cars, purses, drawers and clear your clutter - you will be amazed at the place that you find yourself in next.  The clutter that you physically clear will begin to clear your thoughts and emotions, leaving you at an amazing place to allow something fresh and rewarding into your life.

I do believe it The Secret. It has worked for me many times, but the problem is in making that kind of thinking a habit. It's so easy to fall back into old ways of thinking. I've used The Secret a few times to get a good parking spot (selfish and silly but it CAN work for that too), in relationships and for a lot of simple things. I have a long way to go in truly utilizing it however.

The law of attraction is nothin more than manifestation.
I believe in " simple" prayer!! it has powerful results, everytime! Ive always been an spiritual individual since the age of 16, and today I pray to jesus christ, not having been raised in a christian home, I wish I had been though, because I would have had an effective foundation in place early in my life! There would have been less confusion throughout my life & I would have been saved from being caught-up by complicated theories of life such as the secret etc.
Biblically it is there written in plain english...1. what you sow, you reap! 2. what you think you are, you are. If you believe you are the best version of yourself and you appreciate the best, believe you deserve the best, and will not settle for anything but the best....you will find that you will attract only the best of things in life.
You need to be specific, and that goes with prayer as well....and envision you already have that thing in your life.
From my own experiences, I have found during daily prayer my true motives are revealed, and my prayer request "can change", leading my soul to what really matters, what is going to be best for me at that particular point in my life.
Additionally....when we have a close relationship with God /our higher-self is connected to the universe, there is a perfect timming for all things, that come into your life....I dont think it can be forced, the idea, that the guy with the most super- focus will manifest it quicker. I think the process is simply more involved....the heart factor, not just a mental thing.

"God does not give us, what is not going to be good for us!" I think you need to allow your heart to question why you want that something so obsessively....your soul will lead you to the truth, and sure its ok to want materialistic items if it will improve your life, productivity & well-being! the big question: is the manifestation(Of My Desire)help build/benefit the lives of others aswell? ......the universe doesnt respond to small thinking, selfish desires. This I know for a fact wink It is drawn to BIG - hearts, ideas, souls, passion, compassion, world changing projects! All the best to you:)

Try it...  It's using your gift of your six sense. Focus on what you want... write it down... look at it every day... live your life like it has already manifested... and that you know that it is yours... and watch your life transform..

I had recently watched a short film about Law of Attraction. The film explains about how you aim for something and how the universe (attraction thing) can help you achieved it. It's really amazing and somehow, I do believe it! It's definitely true! It's really happening. Once you put your heart on something and desired for it, somehow, you will get it. I guess the title of that film is THE SECRET. My sister had a copy of it.

It does work but you need two important things for it to work. The first is to understand that your thoughts are things, so if you want good things to come into your life then you must think good things. If you continue in the negative thinking that your not good enough to have all the great things that life has to offer, then guess what-You will never have it! If you have a dream and you want it badly enough but continue to say you will never get the chance or never have the opportunity, then your right, you never will. The second important thing you must have is ACTION! You can't just think for good things but you must act on what you think. You want that dream to happen, then you do something every day for it to happen. You work towards it.  You put yourself in the thinking mode and the atmosphere that it is already there. If you want to own a business you don't just dream about it, you start doing what you need to in order to have that business. You can have, be and do anything if you think it and then go out and start doing something about it. It's when you expect everything to just be given to you that you find yourself disappointed and then your negative thinking brings more negative thoughts and situations to you.

I've thought about this a lot and it seems to be more of a law of "attention" rather than a law of "attraction".  It's not that you create your own personal universe to do your bidding, but rather that you create your "perception" of it.  There are so many things going on in he universe that we couldn't possibly keep track of them all, so we enlist our subconscious minds to pay attention to the things that are important to us..and in that way they will always be brought to our attention (through our subconscious). The more we pay attention and refine what we're looking for, the more things are brought to our attention in more specific ways... and we are more likely to put ourselves in environments, and with people, that facilitate furthering our dreams.  Voicing our thoughts about things that we are attending to also enlists the subconscious minds of those near to us, who become our supporters and helpers, and us theirs :-)

About six months ago, I started to worry about many things that could go wrong and started saving money and trying to be "practical" in order to prepare for these things...lo and behold, almost everything I'd thought I was preparing for, happened! I'm not saying I officially believe in it, maybe it's a self-fulfilling-prophecy kind of thing...but it's definitely intriguing!

Yes law of attraction works for sure but like every law it also needs some ideal environment.

Simplistic, yes it appears to be yet when it comes to applying it in our lives its not that simple. Most of us our controlled by thoughts and its human nature on the other hand law attraction is controlling your thoughts which sometimes may prove to be hardest thing to work on .

When using it on things which are not important life its easy. I can see a sunny day in my thoughts but a rainy day will not affect me much and when it comes to important stuff it is harder to implement.

A person with a great track of failures its hard for him to see his success even in his dreams.

Yes, it's too simplistic - and yes, it works - as one part of a larger picture. Real manifestion seems to require using the Law of Attraction as persented in the Secret, plus at least three more things:
    - That what we want to create is for the highest good of ourselves and everyone involved.
    - That we are not manipulating ourselves and others - tricking, pushing, or forcing
    - and a lot of hard work, common sense, and patience!

I also tried things like thanking my angels and asking them for guidance, but I never noticed anything different ... people might claim I am just  not believing enough (uncounsciously) - although I have met at least 8 people who told me I am a "light worker" myself and should do something with it (but then again, aren't we all in our own way - I mean to me to say you are a light worker is to say the same thing as ... you are destined to spend your life helping out others and working for the highest good of the environment and the world - morally speaking we ALL are destined to do that, no?

So ... result, I am reading a lot, trying out a lot, not excluding anything, but not devoting time to something in particular eather ... It will manifest when it needs to ...

As to "the secret" I just assume that if you are being positive you'll see everything as a success or achievement ...

The key is to have a daily process to follow that develops the new state of mind.  By focusing on the scheduled tasks and completing them creates a new sense of accomplishment and begins to change your attitude.  Over time you will become aware of more like minded people and interact in a much different way.

If you work on adopting a positive attitude, no matter what happens, obviously, you'll be able to deal with everything so much better.  It does seem, for some unknown reason, that the more positive one tends to be on a daily basis, a determination to be happy no matter what, I've found anyways, that more good things seem to occur and I know I seem to attract more up beat and positive people at those times.  I don't beleive that any of us can truly understand the spiritual and physical powers that exist in the world and the universe as a whole that shape our lives and equate for so much that is totally explainable. It may not be so on a regular basis, but, in any event, it tends to help if you can be more positive on a daily basis and a serious committment to be happy despite some of the negative and miserable people you may come across.

hi there... i truly believe that the law of attraction works.. "the secret" is basically copying ancient wisdom from many sources...  her latest book "the power" is much better...

i believe the real secret or key behind making these simple teachings work is through the power of our emotions... and it's basically pretty simple...

it's how and what you're "feeling" is what really drives what you desire.... feeling = what you're resonating and putting out there... and what goes out comes back to you... ie.. like attracts like...

and it doesn't matter what you're wanting/thinking - it can be either negative or positive - it's how you're really feeling... ie.. you can think you want something but if you feel you can't - you'll get more of the "can't"... because that's what you're really feeling... feelings are energy and energy is what comes back....

abraham teaches...  "there is nothing more important than feeling good"...

i had a very powerful experience with this when i was 10... and i wrote about it here on one of my hubs it you want to check it out here at...

    http://drumweaver.hubpages.com/hub/how- … s-manifest

...and i welcome your feedback and comments... as this is a cool subject to discuss...

and just for fun, check out the abraham video at the bottom of the article - it's short and very good... says this in a nutshell... the true message is right at the end of the video, so, be sure to watch all the way through....

thanks for asking this question... wishing you all the best...
    blessings, weaver (((o)))

I have not read the book or seen much on this theory, but from reading the comments here it seems that this "law of attraction" could actually be self-motivation? By finding whatever it is that you really want, and focusing on it, are you not self-motivating yourself to achieve / get it? How much of it is the universe helping you, and how much is you finally helping yourself by moving in the right direction to achieve what you want.

Again this is just based off of the observations of the comments in this thread.
